When a Doctor Became the Suspect

Police in Kiambu are holding a 36-year-old surgeon, Dennis Mosoba Nyambane, for seven days in connection with the death of his 30-year-old wife, Mary Mwende Mutie.

Nyambane was presented before a Kiambu court as investigators sought more time to complete investigations into the circumstances surrounding Mary’s death.

Police allege that Mary died after sustaining severe injuries at the couple’s rented home at Buscarde Plaza in Kiambu.

According to investigators, the incident occurred inside the house, where Mary was allegedly found with serious injuries. A post-mortem examination later established that the injuries were severe and resulted in her death.

The circumstances surrounding the incident have left Mary’s family seeking answers, with relatives saying the couple’s marriage had been troubled for some time.

Mary’s family claims she had been considering leaving the relationship and starting a new life. Her aunt said she had offered to take her in and support her as she began afresh.

However, those plans did not materialise.

According to the family, the aunt received a message from Mary shortly before her death, raising further questions about what happened in the final hours of her life.

Mary’s cousin, who had reportedly been staying with her for about two weeks, had also planned to travel with her to Kitui.

The family says the plans later changed after Nyambane suggested that they travel to Embu to attend a church activity known as Makambi.

Mary’s cousin, however, left before the planned trip could take place.

Meanwhile, the whereabouts of the couple’s three-year-old child remain unclear, adding to the family’s distress as investigations continue.

The court has also directed that Nyambane undergo a mental assessment at Kiambu County Referral Hospital.

The order has reportedly not gone down well with Mary’s family, who are seeking answers over the circumstances surrounding her death.

Investigators are expected to continue piecing together events leading to Mary’s death as the suspect remains in custody.
