Paris Saint-Germain retained the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday after beating Aston Villa 2–1 in Salzburg, Austria, continuing a remarkable run of success under manager Luis Enrique.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave PSG the lead in the 20th minute before Aston Villa’s 17-year-old debutant Brian Madjo equalised shortly before halftime.
Désiré Doué then restored PSG’s advantage in the 61st minute with the goal that ultimately decided the contest.
The victory adds another trophy to PSG’s rapidly expanding collection after their historic Champions League triumphs.
The French club have now retained the UEFA Super Cup, joining AC Milan and Real Madrid among the teams to have achieved that feat.
Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring with an individual piece of brilliance; The Georgian winger worked his way through the Villa defence before unleashing a powerful effort that gave goalkeeper Marco Bizot little chance.
Villa responded through Madjo, who made an immediate impact on his senior debut; The 17-year-old met John McGinn’s cross with a volley to level the match and became the youngest player to score in the history of the UEFA Super Cup.

Doué raced onto Ousmane Dembélé’s pass and curled the ball into the far corner.
The goal was initially ruled out for offside, but a VAR review overturned the decision and awarded PSG the winner.
Villa attempted to force the match into extra time during the closing stages, but PSG’s defence held firm.
Doué said the victory reflected the team’s continued desire for silverware.
We are always hungry, we want more.” Desire said.
The trophy was another major achievement for Enrique, who has now collected 13 trophies since becoming PSG manager in 2023.
For Villa manager Unai Emery, the defeat continued a difficult record in the competition, with Reuters noting that he has now lost all four of his UEFA Super Cup appearances.
The match also had a wider African connection; Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan officiated the final, having previously attracted attention after being unable to participate in the 2026 World Cup after being denied entry to the United States.
PSG’s latest triumph therefore represents more than another European trophy.
It underlines the club’s transformation into one of the dominant forces in European football and demonstrates their determination to remain at the summit after finally achieving Champions League glory.
