Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje is questioning the government’s response to recent incidents of political violence in Nakuru and Homa Bay.
Mwenje says the attacks raise serious questions about the preparedness of security agencies as Kenya enters a period of heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Monday, the legislator said authorities should have acted earlier to prevent the violence.He specifically questioned how roadblocks and gatherings of youths could occur without security agencies being aware.
Mwenje criticised Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and called for greater accountability within the security sector.
The fact that there was an attack in Nakuru, that there was an attack in Homabay…shows you that the security system we have in Kenya has failed!” Mwenje said.
The Homa Bay violence disrupted the Linda Mwananchi political tour and resulted in deaths, injuries and destruction of property.
Journalists covering the event were also attacked, with the Media Council of Kenya reporting that eight journalists and five drivers were assaulted during the Homa Bay tour.
Mwenje is now warning that political rallies will increase as the 2027 elections approach and security agencies must therefore be prepared to prevent violence before it occurs.
He is calling for accountability and stronger security measures to protect politicians, supporters, journalists and members of the public.
