Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has come to the defence of Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga following criticism over the state of roads witnessed during the Linda Mwananchi tour of the county.
Images and videos showing dusty and poorly graded roads sparked debate on social media, with some critics questioning the county government’s record on development.But Passaris says the criticism directed at Governor Wanga is misplaced.
Speaking on Monday, Passaris described Wanga as one of the best-performing governors in the country and defended her development record.
She also defended the police response to the violence that disrupted the Linda Mwananchi activities.Passaris said, “The police did a good job in Homa Bay. It could have been worse.”She called for those responsible for the violence to be arrested, charged and prosecuted.
On the roads, Passaris explained that some of the sections seen during the political tour were undergoing repairs, hence the dusty conditions.
The controversy has nevertheless opened a wider political debate about infrastructure development in Homa Bay and the responsibilities of both the county and national governments.
The road debate comes amid growing political competition in the county, with opposition leaders using the Linda Mwananchi tour to mobilise support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
