Motorists Threaten Nationwide Fuel Protests
The Motorists Association of Kenya (MAK) has threatened to mobilize motorists, matatu operators and the public for peaceful nationwide protests if the government fails to address soaring fuel prices.
In a statement on Wednesday, MAK accused the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority of failing to explain the latest hike.
EPRA raised petrol by Sh12.93 to Sh226.96 per litre in Nairobi, diesel by Sh9.90 to Sh227.76 and kerosene by Sh28.49 to Sh219.87 for the October 15-November 14 cycle.
The lobby questioned why kerosene, used mostly by poor households, had the biggest increase despite the lowest rise in landed cost.
They want an independent review of the pricing, full publication of the calculation formula, and an audit of the Government-to-Government import deal.
“An explanation is not scientific merely because it contains figures,” MAK said, demanding transparency on taxes, freight, margins and the Petroleum Development Levy Fund balances.

Transport operators say they have given the government a seven day window for talks. Their irreducible demand is a Sh46 cut on diesel..
