Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki today represented President William Ruto at the Second Extraordinary Summit of the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) in Entebbe, Uganda.
The summit brought together Heads of State, foreign affairs officials, defence ministers and security experts from across Africa to discuss the future of peacekeeping operations in Somalia following the transition from ATMIS to AUSSOM.
Kenya remains one of the largest troop-contributing countries to the mission and has continued to support efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in Somalia while combating terrorism in the Horn of Africa.
Leaders at the summit are also discussing sustainable funding for the mission, intelligence sharing among member states and strategies to strengthen regional security cooperation. Kenya’s participation underscores the country’s commitment to promoting peace and security within the East African Community and the African Union.
The resolutions adopted at the summit are expected to guide future operations of AUSSOM and enhance collaboration among African countries in addressing cross-border security threats.
