The Little Black Dress, one of fashion’s most enduring symbols, is marking its 100th anniversary this year
.The iconic garment was introduced by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in 1926. At the time, its simple and practical design represented a major departure from the elaborate clothing that had dominated women’s fashion.
Chanel helped transform the simple black dress into a symbol of elegance, independence and modernity. What was once strongly associated with mourning became a sophisticated wardrobe staple that could be worn for both everyday occasions and formal events.
To mark the milestone, Chanel’s archives are being revisited alongside contemporary interpretations of the garment by the house’s current creative director, Matthieu Blazy.A century later, the Little Black Dress remains relevant, continuing to appear on runways, red carpets and in wardrobes around the world.
