America.gov Launches AI-Powered Government Chatbot
The Trump administration has launched America.gov, a new artificial intelligence-powered government website designed to help Americans find information and access federal services through a single online platform.
The website’s chatbot uses technology from Google’s Gemini and SpaceXAI’s Grok, according to U.S. Chief Design Officer Joe Gebbia, who helped lead the project. Gebbia said the platform is intended to make it easier for people to navigate information that is currently spread across thousands of government websites.
According to Gebbia, America.gov can search information from about 29,000 government websites and provide users with responses based on official government sources. The system is initially focused on helping people find information about public services, government programs and other federal resources.
The administration plans to expand the platform’s capabilities in the future. Proposed functions include helping users with services such as Medicare enrollment and passport renewals, although these features are not all available at the initial launch.
President Donald Trump unveiled the website Tuesday at an event in Washington attended by Vice President JD Vance, government officials and technology industry leaders. Trump described the platform as part of an effort to modernize how Americans interact with the federal government.
The launch comes as governments and technology companies continue to expand their use of artificial intelligence while debates over AI safety, privacy and regulation remain ongoing. America.gov is expected to become part of the administration’s broader effort to integrate AI into government services.
