Zuma Hospitalized for Routine Check-Up
Former South African president Jacob Zuma has been admitted to a hospital in Pietermaritzburg for a routine medical check-up.
The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party said Zuma undergoes medical examinations twice a year and sought to reassure supporters about his health.
In a statement, the party said Zuma was “healthy and in good spirits” despite being admitted to hospital.
The party also confirmed that Zuma’s political activities would continue, saying his campaign was expected to resume on Friday.
A close family associate, however, told the press that Zuma had been feeling unwell before his admission. The associate said the condition was not serious and that the hospital admission coincided with his scheduled routine medical check-up.
The MK Party has not disclosed further details about Zuma’s condition, but the reassurance is expected to ease concerns among his supporters.
