Safaricom has announced a self-service option allowing customers to restore old, inactive mobile lines without visiting a Safaricom shop.
The telecommunications company shared the instructions on Friday, August 21, 2026, through its official social-media platforms, advising customers to dial *100*2# from an active Safaricom line and follow the prompts to recreate their old SIM.
Customers seeking to restore an old number must have the serial number of the previous SIM card, also known as the ICCID. The number is normally printed on the SIM card or its original packaging.
Safaricom says the process enables eligible customers to recover their old numbers remotely, eliminating the need for a physical visit to a shop.
However, customers who no longer have their old SIM card or its serial number may need to visit a Safaricom service outlet and undergo an alternative verification process.
The service is expected to benefit customers who stopped using their Safaricom numbers but wish to regain access to them without registering for a new line.
Safaricom has also previously provided a dedicated service for recreating old SIM cards, with its official website confirming *100*2# as the USSD code for the process.
