National Cohesion and Integration Commission Chair Bishop Kepha Omae has urged Kenyans to exercise free speech responsibly amid rising political temperatures.
Speaking Monday, Omae reminded leaders and the public that while the Constitution guarantees freedom of expression, the right is not absolute.
“It does not extend to propaganda for war, incitement to violence, hate speech or advocacy of hatred,” he said.
The NCIC boss noted that words can deepen divisions when used carelessly, especially ahead of election cycles.
He called on politicians, media, and citizens to choose language that unites rather than divides,Omae said the commission will monitor public utterances and take action where speech crosses legal lines, but encouraged dialogue rooted in respect and facts.
