Kalonzo Hints on Backing Sifuna

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka says he is willing to support Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s presidential bid if opposition leaders agree to rally behind him ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking during a party function, Kalonzo framed the move as part of building unity in the opposition to unseat President William Ruto.
He noted that the coalition needs a candidate with grassroots appeal and a clear message, and that Sifuna fits that profile.
“If the team agrees that Senator Sifuna carries our flag, I am ready to walk with him and support him fully,” Kalonzo said.
The remarks come as opposition leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other Azimio principals, continue talks on forming a formidable alliance for 2027.
Sifuna has not officially declared a presidential bid, but has positioned himself as a key voice on governance, corruption, and youth issues.
Kalonzo added that the opposition must avoid last-minute fallouts like in 2022 and instead settle on one candidate early to present a united front.
The coming months are expected to see more negotiations as parties test alliances ahead of the polls.
