Kaguchia remains in custody
The High Court has ordered the immediate release of Mukurweini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia upon payment of a KSh100,000 cash bail.
In a ruling delivered on Monday, Lady Justice Njoki Mwangi certified the legislator’s application as urgent and granted interim orders directing his release pending the hearing and determination of his case.
The judge further directed that an application filed by Kaguchia’s legal team be heard virtually on September 16, when the court is expected to issue further directions on the matter.
Despite the court order, Kaguchia remained in custody at Kamukunji Police Station by the time of publication as authorities processed his release.
The lawmaker’s arrest had attracted public attention, with his legal team challenging the circumstances surrounding his detention and seeking urgent intervention from the High Court. The court’s decision to grant interim relief means Kaguchia will remain at liberty on cash bail as the legal proceedings continue.
