Former Australia Test batsman Mike Hussey is considering an offer to join England’s coaching staff for next year’s Ashes after being approached by new England head coach Stephen Fleming.
Hussey has indicated that he would consider taking up a batting-coaching role despite the possibility of helping England prepare to face his native Australia in the high-profile Test series.
Following the reports from Rediff; The potential appointment would create an unusual Ashes storyline, with one of Australia’s former international stars potentially working inside the England camp.
Hussey, however, has previous experience with the England setup.He worked with the team during their successful 2022 T20 World Cup campaign, meaning a return to the England coaching environment would not be entirely unfamiliar.
Rediff reports that his relationship with Fleming is another factor behind the possibility.
The pair have worked together in the Indian Premier League with Chennai Super Kings, where Fleming has been a long-serving coach and Hussey has held coaching responsibilities.
Fleming’s appointment as England’s head coach has now opened the door for another potential reunion.
Hussey’s experience would be particularly valuable to England’s batting group.
As an international player, he developed a reputation for consistency and resilience, qualities England will need as they prepare for the next Ashes series.
The 2027 Ashes will be played in England, giving the home side an opportunity to reclaim the urn on home soil.
Australia remain the traditional rival England most wants to defeat, making Hussey’s possible involvement especially intriguing.
