Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has raised fresh concerns over the credibility of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, alleging the 2027 General Election could be manipulated through a disputed technology tender.
Speaking to journalists in Karen, Nairobi, on Wednesday, Gachagua claimed IEBC advertised a tender on August 11, 2026, for the supply and maintenance of an integrated elections management system, but the winner had already been decided.
He alleged a South Korean firm, Miru Systems Co. Ltd, was being favoured to win the contract
“Kenyans do not know that the tender process and the result have already been preconceived and are awaiting rubber-stamping,” Gachagua said.
The DCP leader further accused IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon and the vice chairperson of pushing the procurement against the wishes of other commissioners, claiming they had been “compromised”.
He also alleged senior government officials had held undisclosed meetings with representatives of the Korean company to discuss integrating its technology with Kenya’s electoral systems.
Gachagua said changes in the procurement department, including the removal of the manager, were meant to smoothen the process.
IEBC has not publicly responded to the latest allegations.
The claims add to growing opposition warnings about the integrity of the 2027 polls.
