Gachagua claims Ruto targets Auditor General
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of going after Auditor-General Nancy Gathungu.
Speaking on Saturday, Gachagua said Gathungu’s reports, which flagged billions in questionable government spending, have put her in the line of fire of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
He argued that independent oversight should be protected, not punished, and warned that undermining the Auditor-General’s office erodes public trust in how taxpayer money is used.
The Kenya Kwanza government has not responded to the claims. Gathungu’s office has released several audits this year highlighting irregular payments and procurement gaps across ministries and state agencies.
