The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) is in mourning following the death of its Assistant Director for Surveillance and Enforcement, an officer the authority described as a pillar of integrity in Kenya’s energy sector.
In a statement issued , EPRA said the senior enforcement boss passed away after years of dedicated public service.
The authority called his death a “major loss” to both the regulator and the wider energy industry, noting that he served with professionalism, commitment and unwavering integrity throughout his career.
“His contribution to surveillance and enforcement has helped safeguard consumers and ensure compliance across petroleum, electricity and gas facilities,” EPRA said.
“We have lost a committed public servant whose work protected Kenyans and strengthened the sector,”it added.
The Assistant Director headed a unit central to EPRA’s mandate of monitoring fuel quality, facility safety and adherence to regulatory standards.
In recent months EPRA has been working with county governments to strengthen joint inspection teams for LPG and petroleum businesses, a role his department helped coordinate.
Colleagues remembered him as firm but fair, someone who believed enforcement was not just about penalties but about protecting lives and livelihoods.
Tributes have poured in from within the energy sector, with stakeholders noting the gap his absence leaves at a time when the regulator is navigating reforms and public scrutiny over fuel standards.
EPRA said it will honor his memory by upholding the values he stood for,funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
