Business activities in Homa Bay Town were temporarily disrupted on Tuesday after a group of youths lit bonfires on major roads to protest the arrest of six people linked to the assault on organisers of the upcoming Linda Mwananchi rally.
The six suspects were arrested in connection with an attack on members of the rally’s planning committee ahead of the opposition event scheduled for August 16.
Homa Bay County Police Commander Lawrence Koilem confirmed the arrests, saying security officers had been deployed across the town to restore order and ensure normal business resumed.
The incident comes amid rising political tensions over the planned Linda Mwananchi rally, with the organising team accusing security agencies of failing to prevent attacks targeting opposition supporters. The organisers have maintained that the rally will proceed as planned despite the security concerns.
