Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has gazetted new rules for Kenya’s Mandatory Inbound Travel Health Insurance Programme, setting clear safety nets for visitors.
Under the notice, every inbound traveler staying less than a year must hold valid medical cover.
The policy’s cumulative benefit limit cannot be less than $50,000, about Sh6.4 million, to protect both tourists and public hospitals from huge emergency bills.
Insurers seeking to offer the cover must also meet tough thresholds a gross written premium of over Sh2 billion.
The proof of paying at least Sh50 million in claims in two years, and a provider network in all 47 counties.
Duale said the move cushions taxpayers and guarantees visitors get timely care.
