Matiang’i Joins Azimio Council
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is now part of Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya’s top decision-making body, following major leadership changes announced by the coalition.
Azimio Secretary-General Caroli Omondi said the Azimio Council resolved to restructure its organs to strengthen the alliance ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Matiang’i’s entry into the council is part of that push to bring in experienced voices as the opposition repositions itself.
The meeting also unveiled sweeping structural changes aimed at making the coalition more cohesive and responsive to grassroots concerns.
Omondi noted the changes were meant to sharpen Azimio’s strategy and unity after months of political realignment.
The announcement signals a deliberate shift as 2027 draws closer, with Azimio seeking to consolidate support and present a stronger front.
For supporters, Matiang’i’s addition brings administrative weight and national experience to the council’s table.
The coalition says more changes to streamline operations and outreach will follow in the coming weeks.
