Over 100 Israeli Settlers Attack Palestinian Family
More than 100 Israeli settlers attacked a Palestinian family in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, preventing them from returning to their home after they had been forced out by settlers earlier this year.
The incident occurred in Jalud, near Nablus, amid continuing tensions and reports of increased settler violence in the area. The Tubasi family had left their home in July following repeated harassment and violence by settlers.
After Israeli authorities coordinated their return under military escort, the family entered the property, which had reportedly been heavily damaged during the period it was occupied by settlers. Shortly after the family’s return, more than 100 settlers reportedly gathered in the area, blocked roads, set tires on fire and threw stones at Israeli security forces.
The settlers also entered the family’s property, forcing the family and security personnel to withdraw. The house and the family’s car were subsequently set on fire, according to reports. The Israeli military said its forces and police attempted to disperse the rioters and protect residents. It said two suspects were apprehended and that three soldiers were injured during the clashes.
The attack left the Tubasi family unable to return to their home. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the violence and described those responsible in a statement as a “handful of rioters,” saying Israeli authorities should arrest them and bring them to justice. His characterization has drawn criticism from people who argue that the scale and repeated nature of settler attacks require stronger action.
The incident has added to international and domestic concern over violence by Israeli settlers in the West Bank. Recent attacks in nearby communities, including Qusra and Jalud, have also targeted Palestinian homes and civilians, while Israeli officials have faced growing pressure to prevent further violence and hold those responsible accountable.
