From Hospital to Lang’ata Politics
Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Davji Atellah is charting a new path, saying he is carrying the lessons of the doctors’ struggle straight to Lang’ata.
In a message shared on his X account on Sunday, Atellah reflected on years spent on the streets, at negotiation tables, and in tough conversations over the welfare and dignity of medics.
He said that fight taught him a simple truth that when you are trusted to serve, you cannot look away.
“The arena may change, but my commitment does not. The people may be different, but the principle remains the same: listen, stand with the people, and get to work,” he said.
The statement comes days after Atellah formally declared his bid for the Lang’ata parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
He made the declaration before more than 1,000 young people in the constituency, unveiling an agenda centered on education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
He has since pitched at Madaraka Garage to mechanics, welders and spare parts dealers, promising equitable bursary distribution and health cover for informal workers.
His entry follows incumbent Phelix Odiwuor Jalang’o’s decision to leave the seat to contest the Nairobi Senate race.Atellah, re-elected unopposed as KMPDU boss in April 2026, says his union record will shape his politics.
