The dispute over the registration of the Linda Mwanachi Movement (LMM) as a political party has moved to the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal, after the applicants challenged the Registrar of Political Parties’ decision over the reservation of the party’s name.
The tribunal, chaired by Innocent Muganda, has certified the matter as urgent and directed the Registrar of Political Parties to respond to the application.
The applicants, including Pauline Njoki Njoroge, former Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo, and Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, say they applied on June 4, 2026, to reserve the name Linda Mwanachi Movement, abbreviated as LMM.
According to the applicants, their initial request was rejected on grounds of public interest. They, however, claim that following a meeting with the Registrar on August 4, the decision was reversed and the name was agreed to be reserved.
The applicants say the Registrar reversed that decision three days later, citing the registration of another political entity, Liberty National Democratic Alliance, which uses the acronym LINDA.
The applicants have now moved to the tribunal seeking orders barring the Registrar from processing, reserving or registering the names LINDA, Linda Mwanachi Movement, or any similar variation in favour of another person or entity until the dispute is determined.
The matter is scheduled to be heard inter partes on August 25, 2026, at 2:30 p.m., when all parties will have an opportunity to present their arguments before the tribunal.
