Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has threatened to leave the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), accusing the party’s leadership of sidelining its supporters in the county.
Lenku issued the warning , during a political engagement in Kajiado, where he criticised ODM officials for campaigning for State House Comptroller Katoo Ole Metito in the 2027 Kajiado gubernatorial race.
The governor said the move was unacceptable because his deputy, Martin Moshisho, is seeking the ODM ticket to succeed him as governor.
Lenku called on ODM acting party leader Oburu Oginga to apologise to Kajiado supporters and address what he described as betrayal by party officials.
He warned that ODM could lose its political foothold in Kajiado if the party continues supporting candidates outside its ticket.
Lenku further said he would not stop Moshisho and other ODM aspirants from joining the Linda Mwananchi movement if the party fails to resolve the dispute.
The governor also warned that ODM could effectively be shut down in Kajiado if the alleged betrayal continues, arguing that local leaders and supporters had played a major role in building the party’s influence in the county.
The remarks come as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 General Election. Several Kajiado leaders have recently defected from ODM, UDA and Jubilee to the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
Lenku, who is serving his final term as governor, has already declared his intention to contest the Kajiado Senate seat in 2027, while his deputy Moshisho is seeking to succeed him as governor on the ODM ticket.
For now, Lenku remains an ODM member, but his warning signals growing tensions within the party’s Kajiado branch ahead of the 2027 elections.
