President William Ruto has set aside Sh1.2 billion for a new university in Emurua Dikirr, Narok County, in a move aimed at expanding higher education access for residents in the South Rift.
Speaking on Wednesday, during the handover of Mamboleo Modern Market in Emurua Dikirr, Ruto said the institution will be named after the late area MP Johana Ng’eno, who died in a helicopter crash in Nandi County in February.
“You asked me for the construction of a university here at Emurua Dikirr; I have today brought you Sh1.2 billion for the construction of a new university that will be in honour of the late Johana Ng’eno,” Ruto told residents.
The President noted the university will serve students from Emurua Dikirr, the wider Narok County and other parts of Kenya.
He added that the project builds on earlier plans by county leaders to establish a satellite campus of Maasai Mara University in the area, with the county government having committed 100 acres of land.
Ruto also announced Sh180 million for student hostels linked to KMTC facilities in the constituency, and said the government would construct a new Class B road from Salgaa through Chebole, Abosi and Shartuka to improve connectivity.Ng’eno represented Emurua Dikirr for three consecutive terms before his death .
Ruto urged residents to embrace education and unity as drivers of development.
