Residents of Verulam’s Central Business District in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, have raised concerns over alleged indecent acts taking place at the Wick Street Local Cemetery.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), several complaints have been received about men allegedly visiting the cemetery during the day and evening and engaging in inappropriate acts while watching pornographic videos.
Residents said the incidents have reportedly been occurring since January 2026, with different men allegedly returning to the cemetery on several occasions.
Some residents further claimed that individuals had been seen standing on or lying on graves and tombstones while allegedly engaging in the acts, raising concerns about disrespect for the cemetery and the deceased.
People living near the cemetery also expressed concern about children in nearby residential complexes, saying they could reportedly hear audio from the videos being played at the site.
Project 360, a local security and cleaning company, contacted RUSA on Monday morning after receiving repeated complaints from residents of a nearby block of flats.
RUSA has since been monitoring the cemetery following the complaints. Residents are calling for stronger action and increased security to prevent further incidents and ensure that the cemetery remains a respectful and safe environment for families visiting the graves of their loved ones.
