The National Cohesion and Integration Commission has summoned Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma to answer questions over alleged inciteful remarks he made ahead of a Linda Mwananchi rally.
According to a statement by the commission, NCIC wants Kaluma to shed light on comments linked to political tension that preceded recent unrest in Homa Bay County.
The summons comes as authorities continue to probe the fallout from the rally, where reports indicated one person died and 46 others were injured.Kaluma, a vocal legislator, was not immediately available for comment.
Sources close to him say he intends to honor the invitation and will present his version of events to the commissioners.
NCIC has been stepping up enforcement ahead of the 2027 polls, with the chair warning that inflammatory speech could trigger wider violence.
The body has in recent months called in several governors and MPs over similar concerns.
Human rights groups have urged leaders to tone down rhetoric, saying communities in Nyanza are still healing from past election cycles.
NCIC said Kaluma is expected to appear before investigators this week though he said that he will not be available as he is attending to other matters and will attend in other day.
The commission maintains the process is not about silencing dissent, but about ensuring public discourse does not cross into hate or incitement.
The MP’s appearance will be closely watched, as political temperatures rise and parties jostle to position themselves for 2027.
