Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has urged an unnamed political leader to step aside after one term, saying Kenyans deserve leaders who prioritize service over prolonged power.
Speaking on the sidelines of ongoing political activities, Mwangaza said the culture of clinging to office undermines accountability and development.
She did not name the leader, but stressed that “going home after serving one term” should be normalized to allow fresh ideas and stronger governance.
The former governor also weighed in on rising tensions around the Linda Mwananchi tour in Homa Bay County.
She condemned the alleged use of young people to disrupt political activities calling it dangerous for democracy,Mwangaza said youths should not be used as political tools.
Reports from Homa Bay indicate that six people were arrested in connection with an attack on members of the Linda Mwananchi planning team, with protests breaking out in town .
“Our young people deserve opportunities, not to be hired to throw stones or block meetings,” she said, urging leaders across the divide to embrace tolerance.
She added that political competition must not translate into violence, and called on authorities to protect all groups equally as the country heads toward 2027.
