Rigathi Gachagua has urged Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to remain in President William Ruto’s administration and face his political troubles from within.
Speaking at his Wamunyoro home in Nyeri , Gachagua made a surprise shift from years of criticism and told his supporters to stop attacking Kindiki.
He described the current environment around the Deputy President as “toxic” and warned that competition for the seat could threaten his life.“As I issue this directive, I want to advise Prof Kindiki as one of our own. Be careful, my brother.
The competition around your seat is a threat to your life. I was there. I know,” Gachagua said.
The former Deputy President, said Mt Kenya should remain Kindiki’s political home if circumstances change.
He instructed DCP supporters to spare Kindiki “political brickbats” and instead direct their criticism at President Ruto and Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen.
“If you encounter problems in the changing political landscape, welcome back home. You are our son,” he added.Analysts see the move as strategic ahead of 2027.
Both Gachagua and Kindiki are jostling to control Mt Kenya votes, with Kindiki positioned as Ruto’s running mate and Gachagua rebuilding through DCP, launched in May 2025.
Gachagua also accused Ruto allies of frustrating Kindiki, saying it mirrors how he was “hounded from office”.
The Kikuyu Council of Elders welcomed the toned-down rhetoric, calling for unity across Mt Kenya communities.
