Apple has finally entered the foldable-phone battle, putting pressure on rivals with the unveiling of the iPhone Duo , its first-ever foldable iPhone and one of the company’s biggest design changes in years.
Apple has introduced the iPhone Duo, a foldable device designed to combine the portability of a conventional smartphone with the larger display of a tablet.
When unfolded, the device features a 7.6-inch inner display, described as the largest display ever placed on an iPhone. When closed, it uses a 5.4-inch outer display, giving the phone a compact, pocketable design.
The two displays share the same aspect ratio, allowing content to transition smoothly between the folded and unfolded modes.
The iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip and features an advanced thermal management system with a custom vapor chamber and dual-battery architecture. Apple says the device delivers up to 35 per cent better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro.
Durability has also been a major focus, with the phone featuring a Grade 5 titanium frame, Ceramic Shield protection and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. Its precision hinge is designed to provide a smooth opening and closing experience while supporting the centre of the display.
The device also introduces new camera experiences made possible by its foldable design. It features a 48MP Fusion Main camera, a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera and new tools that allow users to preview shots on the outer display and capture images without having to hold the phone in the conventional position.
Apple has also redesigned iOS 27 to take advantage of the larger inner screen. Users can run two apps side by side, switch between applications and open two windows of the same app, bringing more desktop-style multitasking to the iPhone.
The iPhone Duo will also feature Apple Intelligence and the new Siri AI, giving users access to AI-powered tools designed to work across apps and understand personal context.
Battery performance is another major selling point, with Apple claiming up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and up to 44 hours when using the outer display.

The device will be offered in two colours , star white and night sky ,and will be made from polished Grade 5 titanium.
Apple says pre-orders for the iPhone Duo will begin on October 16, with availability starting October 23.
The launch marks a major shift for Apple as it enters an increasingly competitive foldable-phone market, where rivals have already spent years developing devices with flexible displays.
