Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has come under intense scrutiny after warning residents against using the phrase “one term” in the county, saying those who utter it would face unspecified consequences.
In a video clip circulating widely on social media, Kaluma is heard speaking in his native Luo language and declaring that the phrase would not be tolerated in Homa Bay.
The legislator also issued a warning to hotels in Homa Bay Town against hosting people associated with the political camp advocating for the “one term” slogan.
Kaluma reportedly cautioned hotel owners that both the guests and facilities found hosting members of the group would face consequences.
His remarks have sparked concern among political leaders and members of the public, with critics accusing him of promoting political intolerance and threatening the freedom of residents to associate with political groups of their choice.
The controversy comes as political tensions rise in Homa Bay ahead of the planned Linda Mwananchi activities led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other opposition-aligned leaders.
Kaluma has previously criticised the movement and warned its supporters against taking slogans such as “Wantam” to Homa Bay.
The latest remarks have intensified calls for security and cohesion agencies to examine whether the statements amount to incitement or intimidation.
