Omollo Pledges Security For Homa Bay Rally

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo assured the Linda Mwananchi movement of state protection ahead of its planned political rally in Homa Bay County.
Speaking during a media briefing, Dr. Omollo said the government’s responsibility is to guarantee safety for all Kenyans, regardless of political affiliation.
His statement came hours after Linda Mwananchi leaders led by Siaya governor James Orengo raised an alarm over alleged plans to deploy goons to disrupt the Sunday meeting.
“We are responsible for security. It is inconceivable that we would allow lawlessness to prevail,” Omollo said, noting that security agencies have been directed to monitor the area and act firmly against any acts of political violence.
The assurance follows weeks of tension between the opposition outfit and the Interior Ministry.
Linda Mwananchi leaders have previously accused PS Omollo of failing to rein in politically linked “goon” attacks, including incidents in Kisii and Kisumu where convoys were stoned.
Omollo has consistently denied the allegations, terming them “street talk” and urging that any criminal claims be handled through legal channels.
He emphasized that police must remain independent and uphold the Constitution.
The National Police Service has already arrested seven suspects linked to the July 3 attack on a Linda Mwananchi convoy in Keumbu, Kisii.
Linda Mwananchi says it will proceed with the Homa Bay rally as planned.
