Natembeya Clashes With Ruto Openly
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has fired back at President William Ruto after the President blamed his Tawe movement for delaying a hospital project.
The exchange happened after Ruto’s Mazingira Day tour in Endebess on October 10, where he accused Natembeya of blocking development.
Natembeya, speaking Saturday, dismissed the claims and said development is not a favour.
“I have not rejected development. Development is a right for all Kenyans, including people of Trans Nzoia. We pay taxes,” he said.
He questioned how the national government could send money to Endebess Sub-County Hospital without a formal agreement with the county, stressing that health is a devolved function.
“Under what law are you sending money without an agreement with the Governor? It is simply a matter of following the law,” he posed.
Natembeya added he is not answerable to the President, saying, “I am not a county commissioner. I was elected by the people.”
