Sifuna Wins Linda Mwananchi Battle
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has won a major legal round in the battle to register his political vehicle, Linda Mwananchi.
In a ruling delivered the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal quashed the decision by the Registrar of Political Parties to block the reservation of the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM).
The Tribunal, chaired by Innocent Muganda, found that the rival Liberty National Democratic Alliance (LINDA) had no legal standing to hold the name.
Its reservation, made on November 15, 2024, had automatically lapsed after 90 days because it never filed for provisional registration.
“No administrative act can breathe life into it,” the Tribunal ruled, terming the Registrar’s attempt to revive it in August unlawful.
The decision gives fresh life to the application filed by Sifuna’s close allies Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, activist Pauline Njoroge and former LSK President Faith Odhiambo.
The Registrar has now been ordered to reconsider the LMM name within seven days.
For Sifuna, who has been positioning Linda Mwananchi as a grassroots driven alternative ahead of 2027, the ruling is more than a name win.
