Former Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage Aisha Jumwa Karisa Katana has announced her resignation from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), citing frustrations within the party as she formally launches her bid for the Kilifi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election. Jumwa previously served as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Gender and Affirmative Action before being reassigned to the Gender docket.
Speaking at her home in Kakuyuni, Malindi, Jumwa claimed that repeated attempts to have her concerns addressed by President William Ruto had been unsuccessful.
She alleged that despite seeking an audience with the Head of State on several occasions, her grievances went unheard and claimed she was once turned away from State House while the President was meeting Coast leaders.
Jumwa said the incidents, coupled with what she described as continued frustrations within the ruling party, convinced her it was time to chart a new political path.
She said the decision came after months of reflection, prayer and consultations with residents and political supporters across Kilifi County.

Jumwa, a former Malindi MP and Kilifi Woman Representative, is seeking to unseat Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro in the 2027 elections after unsuccessfully contesting for the seat in 2022.
