Trump to Announce $15 Billion Steel Plant
U.S. President Donald Trump is set to announce plans for a $15 billion steel plant in Iowa, a project that would become the largest steel-making facility of its kind in U.S. history. The investment by Mesabi Metallics is expected to strengthen domestic steel production and create thousands of jobs.
According to a White House official, the planned facility is expected to begin production in 2030 and create an estimated 1,750 full-time jobs. The project is part of efforts to expand industrial production in the United States and increase domestic manufacturing capacity.
Trump is expected to make the announcement at the Oval Office alongside Mesabi Metallics Chief Executive Officer Joe Broking and Chairman Rewant Ruia. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Export-Import Bank Chairman John Jovanovic are also expected to attend the event.
The proposed investment comes at a time when the U.S. economy and manufacturing sector remain important issues for the administration. The steel industry has also been a major focus of Trump’s economic policies, with the president repeatedly emphasizing the importance of producing key industrial materials within the country.
The announcement is also taking place just weeks before the U.S. midterm elections, when economic issues are expected to receive significant attention. The planned steel plant is therefore likely to be presented by the administration as a major investment in American industry, employment and domestic production.
