Kenyan music is mourning the death of Arbantone and Gengetone artist Edgar, popularly known as Stoopid Boy, who died on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

The artist, who rose to prominence with his breakout hit G Baga Jat, popularly known as G Bag Na Jug, became one of the recognisable voices of Kenya’s emerging Arbantone music scene.

News of his death was confirmed by people close to the musician, with fellow artiste Jay Classic among those who shared the news. Fans and fellow musicians have since taken to social media to mourn the young artiste.

Stoopid Boy gained widespread attention in 2024 after G Baga Jat became popular among Kenyan audiences. The song was later remixed with established artistes including Mejja, Breeder LW, Gody Tennor and Spoiler, further boosting his profile in the local music industry.

His death comes after a difficult period in his personal life. Reports indicate that the musician had struggled with substance abuse and had previously sought help through rehabilitation.

In March 2026, Stoopid Boy also raised concern after reportedly sharing a distressing video in which he spoke about taking his own life following a domestic crisis. The incident prompted fellow entertainers, including Oga Obinna, to appeal for intervention and support for the artiste.

Some reports emerging after his death have linked the circumstances to suicide. However, the exact cause of death had not been officially established in the reports available at the time of publication.

His death has renewed attention on the challenges faced by young artistes, including substance abuse, mental health struggles and the pressures that often accompany sudden fame.

Stoopid Boy’s death marks a sudden end to the career of an artiste whose music had become closely associated with the rise of Kenya’s Arbantone sound.
