iPhone 18 Pro: Goodbye Cosmic Orange, Hello Dark Cherry!
Apple could unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on September 9, 2026, with pre-orders potentially opening on September 12 and the devices reaching stores on September 18.
Apple has not confirmed the dates, but reports based on the company’s previous launch patterns suggest September 9 is currently among the most likely dates for its annual iPhone event.
The timing is linked to the U.S. calendar, with Labor Day falling on September 7. Apple has historically avoided holding its major iPhone event immediately after the holiday. In 2015, when Labor Day also fell on September 7, Apple held its iPhone event on September 9.
If Apple follows a similar pattern this year, pre-orders could begin on Saturday, September 12, rather than the traditional Friday schedule. The proposed Saturday opening would also avoid September 11, the anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States. Apple has previously opened iPhone pre-orders on a Saturday, including in 2015.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max could then go on sale on Friday, September 18, although a September 25 release remains another possibility if Apple’s schedule changes.
The upcoming Pro models are also expected to introduce a new signature colour. Reports indicate that Apple could replace the Cosmic Orange finish used on the iPhone 17 Pro with a darker Dark Cherry colour.
Dark Cherry is reportedly a deep burgundy or reddish-purple shade and is expected to give the new Pro models a more subdued appearance compared with the brighter Cosmic Orange. Leaked dummy models and other reported component images have provided further indications of the colour, although Apple has not confirmed the finish.
Other reported colour options include Light Blue, Silver and Dark Gray.
The September event could also mark Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone market. Reports suggest the company is preparing its first foldable iPhone, which could be introduced alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. New Apple Watch models are also expected as part of the company’s wider hardware refresh.
The standard iPhone 18 lineup could follow a different release schedule, with reports suggesting Apple may delay some non-Pro models until 2027 as the company changes its traditional annual iPhone launch strategy.
For now, the September 9 unveiling, September 12 pre-orders and September 18 retail release remain projections rather than confirmed dates. Apple is yet to officially announce its September event or reveal details of the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.
