The United Opposition has called for the intervention of the International Criminal Court (ICC) over rising political intolerance in Kenya, accusing President William Ruto’s administration of failing to address political violence.
The opposition made the call following incidents witnessed on Sunday in Homa Bay County, where political tensions were reported during a public event.
Speaking in Karen, Nairobi, the opposition accused President Ruto of shrinking Kenya’s democratic space and failing to protect political freedoms.
The team is also calling on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the international community to take action to safeguard the country’s democratic processes ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The opposition has announced plans to hold a People’s Forum on Democracy in October as part of preparations for next year’s elections.
The ICC, based in The Hague, investigates and prosecutes individuals accused of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and other serious international crimes.
