Linda Mwanachi leaders have emerged publicly for the first time after a day of running battles in Homa Bay, accusing the national and county governments of failing to protect them and their supporters from attacks by suspected goons.
The leaders blamed the violence that left two people dead and more than 50 injured on what they described as a coordinated attempt to prevent them from accessing Homa Bay town.
They further alleged that the attacks, which began on Saturday night and continued into Sunday, had political backing from individuals within the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The leaders also accused police officers of watching from a distance as suspected goons attacked them and their supporters for several hours.
They singled out two elected leaders from Homa Bay County, claiming the violence amounted to criminal conduct that should have consequences ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The group called on senior security officials to resign, accusing them of failing to contain what they described as rising criminality and political violence in the country.
The allegations come amid growing concern over the violence witnessed in Homa Bay, with several vehicles reportedly torched and others vandalised during the clashes.
Police have since arrested 37 suspects as investigations into the violence continue.
