Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has turned to Mt Kenya elders to rally the region behind President William Ruto ahead of 2027, even as he dismissed talk that his seat is up for grabs.
Speaking during engagements with the Njuri Ncheke council in Meru ,Kindiki was declared the official Mt Kenya spokesperson and adorned in traditional attires.
The elders said he is the only one authorised to speak for the community and vowed to lead talks with other regions to support their son.
In their resolution, the elders opposed attempts to split Mt Kenya into East and West, arguing that unity is needed to strengthen the region’s bargaining power.
They also backed President Ruto’s re-election bid and Kindiki’s continued tenure as Deputy President until 2032.
Kindiki echoed the message in Murang’a and Meru, urging residents to reject divisive politics and remain united behind government development programs.
“I will unite the people of Mt Kenya region and will not allow attempts to scuttle the unity of our communities,” he said and also shut down speculation about his position.
“The position of deputy president was not vacant and should not feature in any political negotiations,” Njuri Ncheke elders stated, a position backed by Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma.
While ODM leaders are pushing for the DP slot in 2027, Kindiki’s allies insist the seat “is going nowhere” and that Mt Kenya’s support for Ruto is tied to Kindiki remaining in office.
