Popular Thika Road operator Nicco Movers has been ordered off the road after the Transport Licensing Appeals Board suspended its PSV operator licence with immediate effect.
In a ruling, the tribunal overturned the National Transport and Safety Authority’s June 9 decision to revoke the licence completely, replacing it with an immediate suspension.
The board gave the sacco seven days to address ten safety and compliance failures raised by NTSA.
If it fails, NTSA may revoke the licence permanently.The action follows a damning inspection where 45 out of 51 vehicles presented failed safety checks. Only six passed.
Inspectors flagged missing seatbelts, faulty doors, broken lights and horns, and lack of fire extinguishers and first-aid kits. At least 30 vehicles had been caught speeding over 80kph.
The case is linked to two fatal incidents in six months, including the June death of KMTC student Eugene Mutivi Mutuku along Thika Superhighway.
