A convoy snaked through Haile Selassie Avenue, Marikiti Market, Gikomba and Jogoo Road before finally making its way to the famous Jacaranda Grounds, as Embakasi East MP Babu Owino led the Linda Mwananchi campaign in an aggressive mobilisation drive ahead of the 2027 General Election.
From the onset, the team sought to project a united front, reiterating its commitment to settling on a single presidential candidate for next year’s contest.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Siaya Governor James Orengo joined the campaign in a show of solidarity, signalling their willingness to work together and ease what has been an increasingly visible rivalry within the opposition outfit.
Orengo recently declared his interest in becoming the coalition’s presidential candidate, placing his ambitions on a potential collision course with Sifuna, who has also emerged as a prominent figure in the race.
Despite the competing ambitions, leaders on the ground rallied behind Sifuna, presenting him as the candidate they believe can mount the strongest challenge against President William Ruto in 2027.
Sifuna, in turn, promised to reverse several decisions made by the Ruto administration if elected president, positioning his campaign as a break from the current government’s policies.
Meanwhile, Babu Owino used the Nairobi tour to further push his gubernatorial ambitions, taking fresh shots at incumbent Governor Johnson Sakaja as the battle for City Hall begins to take shape.
With the 2027 contest drawing closer, the public displays of unity could face their biggest test yet , whether Linda Mwananchi can reconcile competing presidential ambitions while maintaining a single political front.
