What looked like an ordinary apartment in Kilimani turned out to be something far more suspicious after detectives stormed the premises and uncovered a huge cache of mobile phone parts.
Police have arrested eight suspects after raiding a two-bedroom apartment on the third floor of Block B, Chelezo Apartments along Kindaruma Road in Kilimani, Nairobi.
Inside the apartment, detectives reportedly found thousands of assorted mobile phone parts scattered across the floor and packed into different corners of the house.
The volume of material recovered was so large that police used four sacks to remove the suspected phone parts from the apartment.
The raid was led by Kilimani Sub-County Police Commander Patricia Yegon and DCI Kilimani boss Hussein Mahat, who recent reports identify as the Kilimani Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer.
Detectives are investigating whether the apartment was being used as a base for a suspected mobile phone theft and dismantling syndicate linked to cases of phone snatching reported in Nairobi.
The operation reportedly followed a tip-off from members of the public, which prompted police to move in and search the apartment.
The eight suspects remain in custody at Kilimani Police Station as detectives work to establish the source of the recovered electronic parts and whether they are connected to stolen mobile phones.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned as investigations continue.
