Kiharu MP and People’s Party of Kenya leader Ndindi Nyoro has criticised the government over the deteriorating security situation in Isiolo following a deadly bandit attack in Gotu that left five people dead.
The victims included two Anti-Stock Theft Unit officers, a National Police Reservist and two civilians. The security officers were reportedly pursuing suspected cattle thieves when they came under attack from armed bandits.
Speaking during a tour of Isiolo, Nyoro accused the government of failing to adequately protect residents and called on national security agencies to strengthen operations in the area. He said the continued loss of lives and livestock showed the seriousness of the insecurity facing local communities.
Nyoro also called for greater attention to the livelihoods of pastoralist communities, saying persistent livestock theft and insecurity have left many families vulnerable.
He further announced a 200,000-shilling contribution to the families of the five people killed in the Gotu attack.
The attack has also prompted calls from Isiolo leaders for intensified security operations in the region.
