Kenyan YouTube creators earning through AdSense will now be required to submit their KRA PIN details by October 1 to continue receiving payments as Google implements a new 5% withholding tax requirement.
According to Google, submitted tax details will take between three and five working days to be reviewed and approved. Once the review is complete, creators will receive an automated email confirming the status of their tax form.
The company will also be required to submit monthly reports to the KRA detailing gross payments subject to withholding tax, the total amount withheld, as well as the creator’s PIN and address.
The move makes Kenyan tax information a key part of the payment process for affected AdSense for YouTube accounts, with the first 5% withholding tax expected to be deducted from September earnings that will be paid out in October.
