After five long years behind closed gates, Nairobi’s laughter is back in Central Park.
Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced the park is finally open to the public again, ending a closure that began in 2021 when Nairobi Metropolitan Services shut it down for a major facelift and for Nairobians starved of free.
Green breathing space, it feels like a reunion ,the new Central Park is not the dusty field you remember.
Think manicured lawns, enhanced walkways, shaded benches under maintained trees, botanical trails and green spaces designed for pure enjoyment.
According to the county, it is now a space where residents can relax, spend time with families and reconnect with nature within the city.
Couples are already taking evening strolls, children racing across the lawns, friends sharing ice cream on the grass.
Joggers have their tracks back, readers have their shade back, and lovers of the city have that rare thing a quiet corner in the middle of the CBD noise.
“The reopening is another positive step towards restoring access to green public spaces where families can relax and visitors can enjoy nature,” City Hall said in a statement.
No tickets, no hustle. Just Nairobi enjoying Nairobi again.
