FRC Flags Ksh15.65B Illicit Wealth
The Financial Reporting Centre (FRC) has uncovered Ksh15.65 billion in suspected illicit wealth following the analysis of thousands of suspicious financial transactions reported in 2025.
According to the agency’s latest report, the funds are linked to suspected corruption, economic crimes, money laundering, and unexplained wealth. The intelligence was generated from 9,571 Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) submitted during the year ending December 2025, representing an 18.8 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Banks accounted for 85.7 percent of the reports, with the information triggering investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), and the Assets Recovery Agency (ARA).

The FRC said a significant portion of the identified wealth includes proceeds of corruption, unexplained assets, and high-value public land, with some properties already preserved as recovery proceedings continue.
The Financial Reporting Centre receives suspicious transaction reports from banks, insurance firms, Saccos, mobile money service providers, real estate agents, casinos, and other reporting institutions as part of efforts to combat money laundering, terrorism financing, and other financial crimes.
