The National Treasury is developing a new digital platform to track development partner funding flowing into Kenya, in a bid to improve oversight and accountability of external resources.
Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo said the Development Partners Management Information System, or DPMIS, is intended to “transform the coordination, transparency, and management of development partner resources”.
The system was built in house by the Resource Mobilization Department,according to the treasury, DPMIS will consolidate information on how loans and grants are committed, allocated and disbursed into one central database.
Officials say the move addresses long-standing challenges of fragmented data that have made it difficult to track donor funded projects and report on external debt obligations.
The platform will pilot first and is designed to enable real-time financial tracking and project performance monitoring.
Treasury expects it to give a granular view of resource allocation, ensuring every shilling borrowed or donated contributes directly to economic growth.
Dr. Kiptoo linked DPMIS to broader reforms to automate debt management and resource mobilization systems to strengthen fiscal transparency.
He noted the system will also help safeguard taxpayers by ensuring development partner money is used strictly for approved purposes.
The Treasury has not given an exact launch date, but reports in January 2026 indicated the department is fast-tracking integration of digital tools including DPMIS, with rollout expected before the end of 2026.
For citizens, the system promises clearer visibility into how external funding supports schools, health, roads and other projects across counties.
