President William Ruto has challenged the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to prepare for emerging security threats and adapt to the changing nature of modern warfare.
Speaking during a passing-out ceremony for new KDF recruits in Eldoret, Ruto said the military must strengthen its capacity to deal with threats driven by technology, cybercrime, artificial intelligence and climate change.
The President said Kenya’s security priorities are changing, requiring the military to be prepared for threats that go beyond conventional warfare.
He also called on the new recruits to combine military discipline with technological knowledge as they begin serving the country.
Ruto further stressed the need to protect critical sectors of the economy, including energy, food systems, ports and digital infrastructure, saying these areas are increasingly important to national security.
The directive comes as Kenya continues strengthening security operations, particularly in areas affected by cross-border threats and insecurity.
In Mandera County, KDF personnel have also heightened security operations in areas considered vulnerable to attacks.
The President’s message to the military is that Kenya must remain prepared for both traditional security threats and new challenges emerging from technology and changing global conditions.
